This year’s Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism Week concluded in high spirits as the University of Baguio – School of International Hospitality and Tourism Management (UB – SIHTM) once again clinched the title of Overall Champion for the 17th year in a row.
The school earned this prestigious accolade after garnering the highest overall scores from all of its official entries, recognizing the efforts and exceptional skills the participating students put forward during the different parts of the event. Aside from the championship title the school also garnered the Overall Presidential award for both the student and professional divisions for winning the highest number of gold medals, the Overall Champion for the Food Showdown / Klasika Moderna Kulinarya division and the Potatoes by Potatoes USA division.
In total, the school won 17 Gold medals, including 6 Gold with Distinction medals which indicate a perfect score of 100 across all panel judges. This marks the first time in the entire history of the event that a single university has achieved such a feat. The school also earned 26 silver medals, 14 bronze medals, and 5 diplomas.
Apart from the mainline categories, the UB-SIHTM also participated in this year’s Mr. and Ms. HRAB competition, where they placed as 2nd Runner-Up for both the Mr. and Ms. category, with an additional accolade coming in at a 3rd Runner-Up for the Mr. HRAB category.
In recognition of these achievements, the University President Engr. Javier Herminio Bautista dropped by the school’s Cafe Fernando for a courtesy call, acknowledging the hard work that the students had put into the event. Along with the participants, the President also led the way for the ringing of the victory bell, commemorating this milestone in the school’s history.
This momentous achievement exemplifies the school’s dedication to nurturing excellence, paving the way for countless future professionals who can handle the demands of an ever-changing world. It cements the school’s moniker as “Home of the Champions”, showcasing the exceptional training that each student undergoes on their journey to become full-fledged professionals in the hospitality industry.
